John J. Fromen Sr., trial attorney

Fromen Sr. Fromen Sr. John J. Fromen Sr., 78, of Orchard Park, died Friday, May 25, 2018.

Mr. Fromen was born on July 6, 1939, in Buffalo. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in 1958 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from Canisius College in 1962. He graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Law in 1966.

A trial attorney and founder of the firm

John J. Fromen, Attorneys at Law, he was admitted to practice law in 1967 and continued to practice until his retirement in 2014.

Mr. Fromen was a member of the New York State Bar Association, Bar Association of Erie County, New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the Western New York Trial Lawyers Association. He was an avid sailboat racer for the Youngstown Yacht Club and competed in numerous local and national regattas.

Mr. Fromen was a member of the Orchard Park Country Club, Niagara Frontier Country Club and Buffalo Country Club. A season ticket holder for the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, Mr. Fromen was also a longtime ticket holder and patron of the arts at Studio Arena Theater and Shea’s Buffalo.

He played baseball at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers, attending their training camp before leaving to pursue his education instead.

Mr. Fromen is survived by his wife, Ann (nee Mertzlufft); six children, Deborah Fromen, Mary Beth Osier, Kathleen Priebke, John Jr., Michael and Peter; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one child, Jeffrey.

The family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the Amigone Funeral Home Inc., 1132 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7.
